At Niven & Smith, LLP, John W. Bassett has handled a broad range of litigation and transactional matters. Mr. Bassett has litigated cases for the firm in federal and state courts, at both the trial and appellate levels.
Mr. Bassett’s practice at Niven & Smith has included a variety of clients and practice areas. With respect to real estate matters, he has represented real estate investors, developers, contractors, buyers, sellers, and landowners; real estate brokers in claims involving professional liability claims; and numerous other litigation matters. He has advocated for the rights of both landlords and tenants in California courts. A notable portion of Mr. Bassett’s work in business and commercial litigation has involved wineries and related businesses.
Transactional work, particularly in business transactions and commercial real estate transactions, has been a heavy focus for Mr. Bassett. His practice has included such matters as advice to existing entities, business entity formation and structuring, acquisitions of real property, real estate financing, and commercial and residential leases.
Mr. Bassett has been practicing at Niven & Smith since 1987. He earned a B.A. in English from Stanford University in 1977 and received a law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of Law in San Francisco in 1980. He was admitted to the State Bar of California in 1980.
